About Smile Design
Smile design means planning the size, shape and colour of your teeth, and how they sit with your gums, as a whole and in harmony with your face. It isn't one single treatment. Depending on what you need, it can combine one or more of fillings, veneers, crowns, teeth whitening, orthodontics or gum contouring.
Who is it for?
- People who aren't happy with the shape, colour or alignment of their teeth
- People with gaps, or with chipped, worn or uneven teeth
- People who would like to improve the look of several teeth
- People with healthy teeth and gums (any existing problems are treated first)
The treatment process
- Looking at your smileThe size, shape and colour of your teeth, and how they sit with your gums, are assessed together with your facial features.
- A plan made for youBased on what you would like, we plan which treatments are needed and in what order.
- TreatmentFollowing the plan, treatments such as fillings, crowns, whitening or alignment are carried out over several visits.
- Fit and follow-upThe result is checked for both appearance and bite, and we share care tips with you.
After treatment
- Follow the care advice your dentist gives you for the treatment you had.
- Brushing twice a day and cleaning between your teeth helps cosmetic restorations last longer.
- If you clench your teeth at night, your dentist may suggest a night guard.
- Regular check-ups matter for good long-term results.
What can smile design include?
- Teeth whitening: lightens the colour of your teeth under your dentist's supervision.
- Cosmetic fillings (composite bonding): small chips, gaps and uneven shapes can be corrected with filling material.
- Veneers or E.max: thin ceramic layers can rebuild the colour, shape and size of front teeth.
- Zirconia crowns: a strong, natural-looking option for teeth that have lost a lot of structure.
- Orthodontics: clear aligners or braces straighten the teeth.
- Gum contouring: can be planned when the gum line is uneven.
How is the plan made?
At your first visit, we listen to what you would like and look at your face, the way your lips move, and the condition of your teeth and gums. Photos, impressions and, where needed, digital planning help build a picture of the look you are aiming for. Goals have to match what is realistic for your oral health, and some wishes may not be possible with a single treatment.
Health comes first
Tooth decay, gum disease and bite problems should be treated before any cosmetic work. Cosmetic work built on a healthy base lasts longer and looks more natural. That is why a treatment plan often has more than one stage.
Timing and check-ups
Depending on the treatments chosen, the plan can take anything from a few visits to a few months. After treatment, good oral care, a night guard (if needed) and regular check-ups help you keep the result.
